Donegal Drive Out …

From the early hours the beautiful Bank Holiday sunshine shone so, several of us, a little past the dawn chorus 😉 set off on a drive out from Hegarty’s Corner.

Crossing the Foyle Bridge we meandered around Innishowen, mostly following the Wild Atlantic Way, taking in the stunning and sheltered, Kinnagoe Bay.

Passing Ballyliffin Golf Club we called in to collect a few brochures about the course and clubhouse for any future Hegarty’s Corner golfing guests. Ballyliffin is a must to consider for any golfing trip and along with Castlerock, Portstewart and RoyalPortrush it would be difficult to find a finer golfing itinerary, all easily accessible from Hegarty’s Corner.

Mamore Gap is a stunning pass through the mountains well worth the drive. Pulling into the viewing point we intended to stop for our picnic however, with our hair being tossed and rugs around the shoulders required, we decided it was perhaps a little breezy 🙂 Down the hill, we followed our noses to find a much quieter and breeze free (almost!) spot right on the water’s edge.

Feast all troughed, it was on through to Buncrana and eventually on to Portsalon. It was a great driving route though there was, for this part of the world, quite a traffic load. I reckon that to be the possible combined effect of sunshine, weekend and Covid-easing.

By no means were we late home (7.30/8.00pm) but we had done a fair amount of driving and for some the run round to Portsalon could have been saved for another day and replaced with an afternoon coffee and traybake 🙂

A fish supper on the way home completed in the words of Wallace and Gromit ‘A Grand Day Out’ 🙂
